The top 1/10th of farmers (largest agribusinesses) received 54% of the bailout money.
82 farmers so far have received more than $500,000.
The top 1 percent of recipients of trade relief received, on average, $183,331.
The bottom 80 percent received, on average, less than $5,000 bailout. If they thought the bailout was going to 1:1 replace the profits they lost to the tariffs, they are going to lose their farms.
I read in another article at a farmer auctioned off a piece of ridiculously expensive farm equipment that he bought about 20 years ago which was still in working order. He received $150 for his auctioned item.
Because they’re fucking idiots. Trump voters will always vote against their own interests.
Farmersonly .com is going to feel the effects of this one.
The Purdue Center for Commercial Agriculture’s latest producer survey, which was conducted last month and released Tuesday, showed a record-high 78% of farmers said they believe the trade war will ultimately benefit U.S.
They are misguided in this belief. The Chinese are finding alternative sources to what the farmers produce. The business is not coming back at the levels they were at before the trade war started.
The farmers are in danger of ending up in the same way but hey as long as Trump gets to say I won, I suppose it would be worth it.
And big Ag corporations will swoop in and buy family farms for a song. That's the American way.
Considering Russia is replacing the US in the lost Chinese market, the agricultural market lost from the tariffs are never coming back. “Saving face” where retaining respect, avoiding humiliation is strong in the Chinese culture and their memory of the tariffs will be strong.
It’s like an abused significant other...
Total stockholm syndrome.
Getting subsidies and handouts with borrowed money will do it..
The bottom 80% of farms received $5,000 bailouts each while the top 1 percent of recipients of trade relief received, on average, $183,331. But it’s worth losing the family farm to own the liberals.
