Chinese police do not carry weapons - at least, the vast majority don't and only in rare situations. They're not militarized at all. The Riot Police are only called out in very danger situations - like people wielding knifes or hostage situations.
There's zero reason to send Riot Police to generally peaceful protests. The sheer number of police will overwhelm anyone who chooses to violate the law. The police will tell you to go away, not because of what you are saying, but because you're causing a disturbance.
Anyways... My point is, the hypocrisy and double standard is insane.
