Still?
China isn't afraid to fight the united States if it threatens her sovereignty.
China merely avoids fighting preventable wars.
Modern China was not even one when it entered the korean war, exhausted from 100 years of war and mayhem, half of it without central governance.

China pushed the Americans back, and fought the vastly superior UN forces to a standstill along the 38th parallel.
Fear? The modern Chinese state has never lost in any fight it chose to turn up for. Not the Americans. Not the Russians. Not the Indians. Not the Vietnamese.
What fear?

You have a Sino centric world view. The only reason the war stopped where it did was because the United Nations mandate was to expel North Korean army from the south. McArthur disobeyed orders and was fired as a result. This was a United Nations action. Not a USA one. If the mandate had been to hold the north then the United Nations would have invaded again and held it easily but this time the would have been ready for a Chinese attack.

Bill Chen
UN mandate?
Please read the history before forming conclusions.
Not the other way round.

Warren Fox
Yes I am afraid so after Stalin gave T34 tanks to North Korea they decided to use them and invade the South. I have a UN medal here that was given to all the United Nations forces that fought against Chinese and North Korean forces. Bill a resolution was passed by the United Nations to remove the North Korean military forces from the South. That is the truth and you can look it up for yourself.

Bill Chen
MacArthur was dismissed in April 1951.
The lines were already formed along the 38th and the next 2 years of fighting saw the north push the south back 10 to 20 km.
UN mandate?
The UN didn't negotiate the armistice.

Warren Fox
Bill that is correct. McArthur was dismissed after the route of UN troops because he invaded the North against the orders of Truman. Within a couple of weeks following the surprise attack of China the Southern forces had stopped the advance and were advancing north again. Truman wanted to stabilise the borders and finish with it. If the Americans had invaded again and alone they would have crushed the NKA and PLA. The treaty was signed by UN delegate William k Harrison junior not by the USA.

Bill Chen
Lieutenant general Harrison, US army.
UN in name.
The “un” sent 4 us generals and one South Korean general to the negotiation table, always headed by an American general. The south Korean rep barely spoke in the two years of talks. The north sent 3 north Korean generals and 2 Chinese generals, headed by general Nam IL.
But have it your way, Mr. Fox.
Goodbye.

Warren Fox
What do mean. The United Nations appointed Harrison to sign on their behalf. So the truth is that the treaty was signed by the United Nations. It’s right there in black and white. A simple thank you for a truthful correction would have sufficed.

Aramsa Khan
At least you are aware that McArther was just a soldier. And soldier only think of war, 2nd to none. He could have caused the 3rd WW, if the civilian ruler did not rule supreme over the soldier.

Aramsa Khan
Are you not aware that, that medal was an aggressor medal to pacify soldiers from the unnecessary war. Are you aware who actually started the war by covert activities…

Warren Fox
Are you aware that the war was started by Stalin when he gave about 130 T34 tanks to North Korea. Are you not aware that he pushed China into a war they did not wish to fight. I am proud of the medal and so should you be. Take a look at North Korea today and the South and tell us all how you long to live under a dictatorship. India played an important role in Korea supporting UN forces. To think the soldiers were stupid is a pinnacle of arrogance on your behalf. Most soldiers were volunteers and very clear about what the Korean police action was about.

It is undeniable that the USSR provided the tank to NK at the request of the NK. The northerner were threaten amidst unsubstantiated allegation and the rhetoric from both sides, something not unusual what the US is doing nowaday against China. To the Russian, the DPRK was another fellow communist comrade and it is not just a proxy war to the Russian, but also struggle between communism western capitalist system. The problem with the US is its overly hysteria with communism. Any socialist or communist country is a potential enemy of the US. The US needs enemy. When the US continue to make another sovereign country its enemy, they will end up becoming its enemy. The USSR and the USA were the only 2 superpower vying for world domination.
The UN was set up by the Victor's (of WW2) predominantly the US, UK and France. When the NK drove down almost the entire southern peninsula, the 3 countries make use of the UN approved “defence" against the NK. The war was insidiously a provoked but unnecessary war, similar to the vietnam war. The rest is now history.

Medals are a penny a dozen.
You can make any medal and give it to anyone.
Even the Nobel peace price has been given to mass murderers.

Warren Fox
But it is proof that the combatants were fighting under a UN flag not an American one. You know medals are a big thing in China and around the world. They represent the embodiment or symbol usually of honour. They identify extraordinary behaviour or elitism and sometimes as a form of racism such as a Jewish yellow star. But I suggest my mentioning of a medal wasn’t a sophisticated enough proof for you. That because you don’t like what I say or can refute it you must denigrate it. It school yard stuff. You must be better than that.

Derius Li
its still the fact China soldiers repel US and UN soldiers amke them cannot fully occupied Korea peninsula. Fact

Aramsa Khan
Despite heavy casualty and had it continue, the Chinese would have pushed southward, nuclear or no nuclear. For the Chinese nation, it was about sovereignty. Avoiding preventable war is also a strategic necessity which the US cannot afford because of the huge influence by the oligarchy behind the government. This will be it's own downfall.

Warren Fox
Again I tell you China did not want a war but was forced by Stalin. If they didn’t go to war Stalin would have stopped economic support.

Aramsa Khan
Your point is the view hold by the American. China has all along insisted not to be dictate by Stalin. Mao was very firm on China having it's own destiny and future without the Soviet interference. Arising from that China and the USSR was almost always on loggerhead. The reason to defend NK was to defend the sovereignty of the Chinese nation. American bases are too near to China. The Chinese would not want it any nearer. The decision was entirely the Chinese decision. And by that, helping a fellow communist country is a small price to pay against would be aggressor.

Warren Fox
You really believe that? You believe that China did not know the limit of the UN mandate ? They knew perfectly well that the UN forces would not cross the border. He knew perfectly well the these forces would not invade China. All the forces expected to be home before Christmas until China’s surprise attack. Stalin instigated this all from Moscow. China required food and technology from Russia.

Xuan Su
It’s a border clash that did not escalate into a war. PLA didn’t lose. It never reached a point where anyone could claim win/lose.

Is China still afraid of America's military power in 2021?
China is afraid of the fact that 74 million Americans do not value human life. The world saw how they voted for Trump; Trump doesn’t care that nearly half a million US citizens died because of his incompetence. That so many other citizens voted for him proves they don’t care either. If they did, they wouldn’t have voted for him.
Plus, if the Trump supporters’ rhetoric is true and he got more votes than Biden, then that means the majority of Americans think the life of their fellow Americans are worth nothing, so long as their dear leader remains in power.
Faced with such callous fanatics, how could any nation not be afraid?

afraid ?
Of course, China is afraid. Anyone with a brain will be afraid of a war with the United States, which is the most powerful war machine in the world and the war master of mankind.
If China had not been afraid, China might have been using bombers to spread democracy everywhere like the United States. Of course, China might not, but at least Taiwan would definitely return to China.
But the enemy will not give up because you are afraid, and the hungry beast will not refuse to eat you because you are afraid
If war comes, fear is meaningless and useless
Of course, the war between nuclear powers will not come, because the meaning of nuclear weapons is to ensure that when this country perishes, all mankind can go to hell with it

China was never afraid of USA, in defending itself against the USA. Look no further than the Korean war and the Vietnam war. Americans will never try again.
What America would like to do is to get Asians to kill each other. They have a Middle East template.
Taiwanese, Japanese could be good candidates with American supplying arms to them. China would jump at the chance to raise the stakes too, because they are always irritating pests, working with the West, to China.
Korea and Vietnam would not likely to be fooled into wars.
Philippines under another administration may provoke China in the future. China would likely to ignore them.

Trump has fooled India to do the dirty work that is spending billions to arm its troops. I hope that the Indian leaders would learn that once upon a time, India per capita was higher than China. Now, Vietnam is higher. Even Bangadesh is catching up.

China has built and occupied islands in the SCS and has armed them with over-the-horizon detection equipment and with hyper-velocity missiles designed to bring down aircraft and to sink naval shipping.
China is taking a defensive stance and the defender always has a better chance of defeating an attacker all things being equal.
I suspect that the US will not attack but the Chinese are being cautious. They are, obviously, not looking for war with anyone as wars disrupt trade and China is getting very wealthy selling to the world and to it’s 1.4 billion citizens.
China has said that it doesn’t want to be a hegemon because the most powerful nations end up being hated and it’s very expensive and China doesn’t like spending money for no good end.

China has recently started pouring money into its defense budget; if I have the numbers right, by 30%. (The US increases its budget annually by 4–5%) They have also ramped up wolf warrior diplomacy. These are the actions of a desperate. Rest assured the greatest fighting force in the world (US military) is ready for whatever they have in mind.

Fear has no home in the Chinese vocabulary when discussing military power. Each side knows that an All out war is never feasible with today’s weapons. A nation that holds trillions of dollars of American national debt has an interest in getting along with the American’s and keeping the trade doors wide open, Chinese expansion world wide is in full swing and unstoppable , and while they are consolidating their power at home and abroad, they are also investing heavily in military growth. China respects American power, but obviously they have shown that they deserve respect in return.

absolutely. China is behind in aircraft tech and its latest aircraft carrier is 1960s tech, its missile systems are unproven as is its entire military in terms of modern warfare, the USA had close to 600,000 combat veterans. No amount of training can close that gap. Throw in the shear amount of Alliances the usa can call on

Yes.
Even most of the nationalistic Chinese have no trouble admitting the significant gap.
China doesn't seem to plan on challenging US military in a open field anytime soon. What it's doing, is make it so that US cannot get an easy victory if it decides to bring war to China's front door,

In a sense, China is very afraid of maniacs in the US military that do not understand China possesses the capability to annihilate US also if US tries to destroy China. The former administration is plagued with such maniacs.
On the other hand, China is not afraid of US, and has full capability to defend Chinese sovereignty and interests. Be it a conventional or nuclear.

No, the opposite is true. Since the US experienced the Korean War and the Vietnam War, the US military has always been afraid of the Chinese military, so that in the past 40 years, although the US planned to destroy China every day, it did not dare to take actions.

I guess it comes down to how you define “does China fear.”
Bravery doesn’t mean the absence of fear. Resolve doesn’t mean the absence of fear - in fact it usually requires it.
I do think China fears American might. But is China paralyzed by this fear? Is China curled up in a ball, crying and helpless from the fear?
No.

不会。

While Americans use the neutral term “The Korean War,” there is no ambiguity in the People's Republic of China's (PRC) official nomenclature: “The War to Resist America and Aid Korea.” ‘The War to Resist America’: How China Remembers the Korean War

Ppl do call it Korean War in China.
“The War to Resist America and Aid Korea.”
This is a term referring the war and an era when Korea War is happening.
This term is less and less used nowadays because modern Chinese society thinks the major purpose of Korean War is to defend China and is to protect China’s interests.
Some old soldiers and old generations may use the term still.

“while the Chinese army was an army with an average equipment level that was the early level of World War II”
It’s not even that to be honest. The Chinese Volunteers were mostly light infantry. The best light infantry in the world at the time, no doubt, but poorly armed, mostly with surrendered Japanese small arms, and relying on dried flour as their main source of sustenance.
During the Korean War, Chinese volunteers carried with them a type of military ration called “ChaoMian”.
It is not to be confused with “chow mein”, the delicious stir-fried noodles you find in Chinese restaurants these days. It was actually nothing more than dried flour.
This was easily produced by simply heating flour (usually of barley and sorghum) in a giant iron pan/wok to remove its moisture, so that it can last longer. Every household in China chipped in to help make this stuff, as it was considered a patriotic duty to feed their boys on the front lines.
The average Chinese soldier would have carried about a few days’ worth of rations on him while on the march, since Chinese supply lines were unreliable and constantly bombarded by United Nations forces. When it was time to eat, he would simply add some water into a bowl of dried flour, mix it into a doughy gruel, and eat the whole thing raw.
It was well documented that Chinese soldiers in their trenches and foxholes would simply grab a handful of snow from their surroundings, add it to a handful of dried flour, scoff it down and get right back into the fight immediately.
This was from a time when China was still an extremely poor and underdeveloped nation, having just survived World War II and a civil war. And yet their soldiers, armed with rusty old bolt-action rifles and subsisting on raw dough paste, beat the much more well-equipped and well-fed armies of the UN to a bloody stalemate in Korea, which is still in effect today.
The world is right to fear China.
