Why does China getting stronger immediately equal a threat to American Prosperity? That is like saying your neighbor getting stronger is an immediate threat to your own prosperity. Yes, China has built up its defense industry massively over the past few decades, but we need to think proportionally. Man Power, the Chinese have every other nation beat hands down except for India. Our Military is likely the only one in the world capable of taking on and taking out multiple countries at a time.
Case in point, in the last 20 years, the US has taken out Iraq and Afghanistan both. Yes, we dwarfed Both countries’ militaries COMBINED as well as there combined populations AND we only used conventional arms. We did not even need to use the FULL force of the Military to do it. The rest of the world, in the past thirty years, has become afraid of the capabilities of the US Military. It took all of 6 weeks to take on the fourth largest military in the world at the time, Iraq, in 1991. 6 WEEKS. Let that sink in. We have been the World’s Single remaining Military Superpower since the fall of the USSR thirty years ago and WE are afraid? Yes with China rising, we may see a resumption back to the norm where the largest superpower of the day has near equals, but for the US to initiate a war against China just because they are getting stronger would be foolish.

In the military space, US is way way way more advanced than any other country on the earth. More importantly, US constantly pours money into advanced military technology at a pace almost equal to all other countries combined, plus the fact that US owns the majority of the most advanced science and technology, the gap between the US and other countries in military power could only enlarge all of the time.
In the economical space, if you focus just on GDP statistics, China might overtake US in like 10 years, but essentially that means nothing for real. The annual combined profit is a lot more important than GDP. A large chunk of China’s GDP are generated by non-Chinese companies, which earn much higher profits than the Chinese companies. If you compare the combined profits of US companies with Chinese companies, I am talking about their worldwide profits, you will see that US is many times higher than China.

As far as China's desire to become as strong a military power as the United States is concerned, there is nothing the United States can do.
China has every right to want to invest in this area.
On the economic level, the United States is now trying to slow down China's progress. This has been evident since the arrival of Donald Trump who has been waging a real trade war for the last 2 years against China.
The results are mixed in my opinion.
In the long run, the United States will not be able to prevent China from becoming at least its equal.
In the future, I see the United States and China as the two powers that will dominate the world with equal weight. This is not the case at present.
