一条横穿中国最大沙漠塔克拉玛干沙漠的新公路的路基已经竣工，这条路位于南疆的巴音郭楞蒙古自治州，它连接玉立县和且末县，全长约334公里，这是横穿世界第二大移动沙漠塔克拉玛干沙漠的第三条公路。
这条公路于2017年10月开始建设，预计将于2021年投入使用，恶劣的天气条件以及水、电、通讯信号和日常用品的匮乏，使得在沙漠腹地的建设成为一项具有挑战性的任务。

The first minute of this was hard to understand. Is it an amusement park on Mars? There are a lot of videos of some big infrastructure in a barren place, but this is the most barren yet! Maybe the most barren possible. Just sand! Not even the now famous straw checkerboards. You almost have to wonder what DOES keep that highway from just being covered up entirely? I imagine there's a big plan for some kind of shelterbelt, that seems to be a standard thing. Here's my unemployed engineer imagination of this: A BIG PIPE goes along the road, starting from somewhere that has water. At intervals this is tapped, and feeds into local pipe networks that then feed in to micro-irrigation tubing, basically like veins in a leaf. There are pumping stations every fifty kilometers or so, and the pipe gets smaller as it goes. Maybe one on each side of the road.... anyway, if something is done to stabilize the soil near the highway, each square meter of the checkerboard can have a little dripper, and some scrubby desert plant or a little grass can be kept alive by this. Also every SINGLE vehicle that goes on this road could bring some water, which could be co-ordinated by a special APP or something, along with the navigation system, or just "mile markers" on the road or something. Anyway, the system asks you to put out water at Kilometer 347.2 or something. In my imagination there's a drum by the side of the road that feeds out to micro-irrigators, you put your water contribution in to that drum. I'm just making this up, but it would be a good story for people to tell in another generation. I'm sure there is already a plan! But the video didn't tell us what it was, or even hint at it so I have to sit here and GUESS. - UP: 8

Water is essential to reforestation program, so divert water from wherever available sources such as tian shan, kunlun, Tibet, etc, etc
The cheapest way I think is make use of empty coke or soft drinks bottles and fill them with water from parts of China with excess water, water to fill these bottles can be taken straight from the rivers. Place these bottles to saplings to water it. Bottles should have pin pricked holes to allow water slowly leaking out to water the plants. Empty bottles can easily be refilled and replaced or collected for disposal or recycled once the vegetation in the area has thrived.
These bottles can be easily carried and put in places where irrigation system is not available. 1 bottle can hold 1.5 - 2 litres of water. Imagine if millions of bottles filled with water are placed in the desert, that would be millions of litres of water being used to slowly water the plants to grow and will not dry too quickly due to high evaporation rate in the desert.
Also can put all these plastic bottles to good use instead of dumping in rubbish dump sites. - UP: 0
