First of all we can not stop China from becoming a super power. Hell, we can't even stop our people from spitting and littering on public places. Last time I checked we were trying to stop people from defecating in open.
Secondly, it's time to give up this bitch attitude. Yup. You remember Chatur from the movie 3 idiots? How he used to distract others a night before the exam to stop them from scoring good marks? That's the bitch attitude I'm taking about.
This is a big problem with most of the people in our country. They don't wanna improve, they don't wanna develop, they don't wanna work hard, rather they would try to drag others down with them. Such a negative mentality is the reason why we are so fucked up. And you may throw examples and brag about all the good things the government is trying to do, but what about you? Aren't you still riding on roads full of pot holes? Do you even dare using a public municipality toilet? And when was the last time you actually saw someone following the traffic rules? You don't even have enough bread to feed your family and you are thinking of how you can stop your neighbour from eating a meal!
I'd suggest you to change this loser mentality and rather learn from their progress, their hard work. If China becomes a super power, it rightly deserves it. And we might become a super power too but only if we focus on solving our issues and improving rather than pulling others down.

This is a very thoughtful question, although India is not interested in stopping China in its right to grow economically and become prosperous, China cannot become a Superpower mainly because of India. I know this might sound a little alarming, but here is the explanation.
This might best be understood if we are able to establish the meaning of a Superpower. A Superpower is a nation that is able to have extraordinary influence in countries around its borders and also with countries far from its shores. If you look at the United States, the current superpower, it does not have any immediate threats in its neighborhood, they are protected by 2 large oceans on either side, the Pacific and the Atlantic, and the other two sides are Canada and Mexico, who are allies and not a threat to the US in any shape or form, this gives the US the a ability to roam around in other places excreting it’s influence.

Now, if we were to go by the same playbook, China is surrounded by countries that are antagonistic to China, so this will hinder and contain China in a way.
On the east coast, they have Korea and Japan, heavily allied with the US. You come down from there you have the South China Sea surrounding countries that are also unhappy with China, and then Russia to the north, which is trying to be friendly but are very vary of China and its intentions. Then you come to India, Myanmar, Vietnam and Laos to the south.
Coming to the point, for China to become a Superpower it needs to first, Completely control its immediate neighborhood, but sharing a very long border with China is the other Asian Giant, India! and China cannot control India, and it does not know how to control India, they might have control over other countries, given their size and the size of their economy, but it’s very difficult to control India, given India’s massive size, both in terms of landmass and population, it’s increasing economic and diplomatic strength and the advantageous geography. This way India is a huge hurdle for China in becoming a Superpower. This is why they try so much to contain India, making Pakistan its proxy, trying to influence Nepal, Sri Lanka, Myanmar and Bangladesh in order to contain India, which in someways are backfiring.
So, this is why I think that It is largely believed only India can stop China from becoming a Superpower. I am not sure if China will succeed in becoming a “superpower” but no doubt they will be a prosperous and very important country.

I don't think India has the capacity or will to stop China from becoming a superpower. Why should we stop the development of another country ?
India can grow faster than China as we have done in last few years. We can follow China in becoming a global power and then superpower. The economic rise of China may not be a bad thing for India but growing Chinese muscle power is a cause of concern for India. Chinese assertiveness is a big concern for security in Asia. But it is not possible to stop the Chinese growth as international trade is very interlinked with all global economies. Chinese prosperity is linked with many big economies.
Chinese economy is more than three times that of India and China is far far ahead in other economic parameters like foreign reserves, balance of trade, Curren account surplus etc. Even China is ahead in terms of military power. The best thing which India can do is to take advantage of growth of China and grow itself but India should also be cautious about Chinese intentions on Sino-Indo border. When Ameica is gradually going back on globalization, India can't afford to take on China head on.

One reasion may be that a large number of youth are realising india’s problems and are ready to take risk nd want to innovate.
To be superpowered,it must be first developed.
A lot has to be done for it: Local Science and innovation startups.Free and compulsory education till 12th.Developing a civic sense,good foothpaths for pedestrians,global minimum safety standards for vehicles and all types of infrastructure.Involvement of dynamic youth in politics.Population control resulting in lower poverty and much better & healthier environment.Much more open to atheist and agnostic ideas than ever before.Modernisation of agriculture through new technologies and if required create locally relevant low cost quality agricultural technology and equipment startups .political will which seems to be there in the modi's personal main cabinet.

The biggest reason for this belief is the common parameters of both the nations, even from historical point of view India and China are neck to neck from last 2,000 years in economic, culture,arts and education,innovation.
Things just changed after colonisation of both civilizations and further after thier freedom.

India just want to feed it's own people first that's it. China is not exactly a superpower too. China has no such ambitions till yet.
China still has a lot of poor people in it's tier 3 cities and rural areas and it wants to lift them out of poverty too.

No one believes that. There is no zero sum game that China is aiming at. China is building a multi polar world where it can assert it's rights regardless of how stronger it is from someone. It's. My immediate reaction is “oh, another stupid question”; but may not be that stupid - further as I thought.
India is not interested in stopping China to become super power. India will never indulge in such cheap tantrums or useless thoughts/actions being a peaceful country. If our neighbour is doing well, we are happy about it and some of us might even look at the adaptable best practices of China which might help us progress us further. It seems at the moment,China has already good achieved economic growth since last 40 years. Many Indians like me appreciate this, way to go China. We are not jealous! will never be.
Though we might have difference of opinions and border issues, India will not waste her time on these type of questions or efforts.

Our Government is trying it’s best to eradicate poverty, corruption, improve education sector, use natural resources in a respectable way (China did not do good job when it comes to it’s ageing population and ill treating of natural resources adding to pollution is not liked by most of us- frankly) under our PM Modijee’s leadership. Indians being peaceful people are very laid back and live happy content life. India is a diverse country. Not everyone thinks like me or similar. But no one likes jealousy or hate in general. That much is true and common among diverse Indians.

See most Chinese think USA as role model (secretly envying?) and might want to live the American dream life, and are more disciplined, hardworking(when there is benefit for them!), money oriented and are more Capitalistic in this approach. These are definitely appreciable in Chinese eyes as most of them dream to become super power, compete with USA in a healthy way. Good indeed.
But not all of us Indians do not dream of super power and are not interested heavily in to that.

I really believe, compared to Chinese; Indians are more peace loving, more friendly, less quarrelsome, less jealous, but less capitalists and still more happy souls!. Average Indian is not interested in quarrelling or occupying neighbour’s house. So on any day, India will not be interested in stopping anyone’s growth even if it is Pakistan- our traditional lovely enemy!. By the way most Indians love Pakistan’s average people if not their Governments. They are also people like us right? Even Chinese are also people like us right? So why should we burn ourselves with hate when the need of the hour is to look in to our own problems and solve them for a better tomorrow? Of course, no country can stop another country’s growth. If they do, God help both such nations! They will go back to stone age if that is how development is!

And say even if some nutcase thinks that India is interested in stopping anyone, luckily Indian leaders and today’s young generation is not interested in that and such rhetoric questions (sorry) will be laughed at. Typical Indians will not think on these lines. We are not interested. What we are interested is, can we solve our own internal problems in a systematic ways? Is there anything that we can learn from others like West or Chinese to make our country a better place for every Indian. Most Indians want better life in honest ways. They are not worried if China provides it or USA provides it or Germany provides it! There is no question of jealousy here. In fact most Indians jokingly say “Let China be the economical super power, we all can have jobs as China does not have much young force”. That does not mean that we do not respect China. Some stereotypes might hate China, but most Indians do not hate anyone other than poverty, corruption and our own internal problems. These views are entirely mine and I could be very well wrong. When I was young I only thought of “Roti, kapda aur makaan (Bread, clothing,house )to my family and to my neighbours who were all well educated looking for proper decent jobs. USA provided it for us and we are happy about it. May be next China will provide us more decent jobs. So why puncture our own opportunities? So please stop spreading any possible hate, we are not in to such mean thoughts. India is a land of tolerance and will continue to be peace loving. No heart feelings please. I could be wrong here. So don’t take the question or my answer seriously. Peace.

India is not really capable of doing this.
The only country really capable is the US and even they are not really going to be able to stop China from getting at least 2 of the three requirements to become a superpower: Economic (China is already there)Technological (China is behind but it can catch up)Militarily (as long as the US manages to keep China within the first island chain, they will have won here)
India doesn’t have much leverage. Even the US militarily will probably struggle in a decade or so.
If the US will have trouble, India is basically hopeless on this front.

India is in no position to prevent China from becoming whatever it chooses to be. The question is moot and probably for academic interest only, since it assumes that India has that capacity and wherewithal to intervene in Chinese scheme of things. Best route available to India is to leverage Chinese economy to propel itself forward. This India is already doing quite astutely. So, India should be exploiting Chinese economy and its leadership position in technology. There are border disputes with China, but both countries are mature enough to overcome contretemps and diplomacy seems to be working fine.

why should we prevent china from becoming a super power? USA wanted to prevent India from becoming a nuclear power but we built out own nuclear bombs. USA does not want others to become super powers because of their big ego. Should we also exhibit similar egoism and prevent out neighbor from becoming a super power? If we do it is nothing but jealousy. Instead we should focus on becoming a super power and show others our achievements.

Should India prevent China from being the super power?
I am an Indian , and I strongly urge people to stop posting such stupid questions. There is nothing much India can do about what other countries are doing. India should focus on its infrastructure and manufacturing capabilities. The first good sign is the 'Make in India' initiative in defense and we Are making good progress there. The same can be extended to other areas.
