Americans dont even open an English dictionary to make sure they get spelling correct. What makes you think they are going to check foreign language?
美国人甚至都不打开英语词典来确保拼写正确。你怎么会认为他们会检查外语?

Actually ... "water" is not that bad a tattoo - in some holistic existential way.
实际上...“水”是个不错的纹身,在某种意义上。

Omg this video is hilarious hahaha I love the part where you started ordering food by pointing to tattoos hahahaha

I always thought it would be funny to get a tattoo that says "I don't speak Chinese" in Chinese characters but I really don't want to permanently mark myself with a joke that would get old after five minutes.
我一直认为纹身用汉字写着“我不会说中文”会很有趣,但我真的不想用一个五分钟后就过时的笑话,来永久地给自己留下印记。
xiaomu
when i become actually proficient in chinese i will get a tattoo saying, "i actually speak chinese so don't call me a pretentious laowai!"
当我真正精通中文时,我会做个纹身,上面写着:“我其实会说中文,所以不要叫我自负的老外!”

ha this guy is so adorable
哈这家伙太可爱了

I imagine that the guy who got the tat that said "None of your business" did it to be ironic. Of course people are going to ask what it means and he'll be like "none of your business" and they'll probably get all pissy or offended and he will have to clarify and that's how you meet people hah
我想那个纹身“不关你的事”的家伙这么做是为了讽刺。当然,人们会问这是什么意思,他会说“不关你的事”,他们可能会生气或感觉被冒犯,他必须澄清,这就是你和别人相识的方式,哈哈

I swear on my life when i tell you this. when i was still in school i worked at a jiffy lube as a part time job. i worked with this black dude who had Chinese characters tattooed on his fore arm. i knew some chinese, but to see if knew what it meant, i asked him what does that say on your arm. he told me that it was his daughters name in chinese. He said his daughter's name was Shante or Shanta or whatever it was, but i know it's one of those fancy black names. anyways, the the tattoo on his arm read "I'm a pretty girl". I swear to god this is all true. ;i worked there for almost 6 months and we had a blast joking on him for it.

Don't get tattoo!
In Japan, everyone will think you are yakusa gangster!
不要纹身!在日本,每个人都会认为你是黑帮!

Yea I don't understand why they don't research what the tattoo means before they get it.. it's something you have for life!!! omg
对,我不明白他们为什么在纹身之前,不研究一下这个纹身的含义,这是陪你终生的东西!我的天

I once saw a gang member who bragged about the Chinese tattoo on his neck, claiming it said "Tough Guy." I didn't want to tell him that what it really said was "Big Fart"...
我曾经看到一个帮派成员吹嘘他脖子上的中文纹身,声称上面写着“硬汉”。我不想告诉他,其实真正的意思是“大臭屁”.

I love the dumb American one. I might get one since I'm English.

That "none of your business" tattoo is genius.
"Hey, what's your tattoo say?"
"None of your business!"
"... Wow, rude, I was just curious ..."

那个“不关你的事”的纹身是天才。“嘿,你的纹身什么意思?”,“不关你的事!”,“…哇,好凶,我只是好奇而已…“ 哈哈

I have "big sister" under a butterfly on my arm in chinese. Good thing that I did my research before I got it. LOL. ( I had a chinese lady at my work confirm it)

"Niu" doesn't specify which type of the species, so it does not necessarily mean ox.
“牛”并没有具体说是哪一种牛,所以它不一定是牛的意思。

I studied Japanese a while back. When I would go into a Japanese restaurant friends would point to a sign and ask me to translate. I would (and still do) say "You stupid Americans..." ; )
我以前学过日语。当我走进一家日本餐馆的时候,朋友们会指着一个牌子,让我给翻译一下。我会用日语(现在仍然)说“你们这些阿呆美国人...”;)

Coming from NY, this is exceptionally funny. We had always suspected more than one t-shirt or tattoo said "you stupid American"
我来自纽约,这非常有趣。我们一直怀疑其实不止一件t恤或纹身上写着“你这个阿呆美国人”

Nothing wrong with chinese tatto, the problem is not respecting language ,not learning it. if you dont know meaning atleast of simbols on you. you like marked cow, who have no idea whats writen on its body.
中文纹身其实没什么问题,问题是不尊重语言,不学习语言。如果你不知道,至少要了解这个纹身意思。否则你就像带有标记的母牛,不知道身上写的什么玩意。
Apisyo M
There was this poor young woman who picked a phrase from a Chinese restaurant menu to be tattooed visibly on her arm. It said tasty and cheap.
有一位不幸的年轻女孩,她从中餐馆的菜单上选了一句话,很明显地纹在手臂上。上面写着“好吃又便宜”

What Andrew comment below remind me one thing: keep Chinese you are tattooing be neat by using Classical wen yian Chinese. That just bring things to a different level.
安德鲁下面的评论提醒了我一件事:保持中文纹身整洁,用文言文的方式会把水平提升一个台阶。

This is unbelievably true, I tend to hang out in a tattoo shop and some guy wanted "Third Eye" and he got "Eye Steak"

I speak Japanese and I'm very surprised that 茶 has the same pronunciation In Chinese! I know Japan loaned words from china but they usually all sound different, really cool that 茶 is (chya) in both languages don't know if the kanji is the same but the pronunciation is!
我会说日语,我很惊讶“茶”有同样的中文发音!我知道日本是从中国借来的单词,但它们通常听起来都不一样,真的很酷,两种语言中的茶(Chya)。但不知道汉字写法是否相同,但发音是一样的!

It's ok for you to get something simple and common like peace or love or faith tattooed, but you should always go to a Chinese restaurant and ask for a translation. I'm sure the folks there would love to help, especially if you order a lot of food and pay them a nice tip.
你可以纹一些简单又普通的东西,比如“和平”、“爱”或“信仰”,但你应该去中餐馆让他们帮忙翻译一下。我相信那里的人会很乐意帮忙的,尤其是如果你点了很多菜,并且付了他们很好的小费的话。

How about actually learning the language before permanently inking it on your body.
在你的身体永久刺上墨水之前,先实际学习一下这门语言如何?

My advice for anyone wanting to get a Chinese Tattoo.
1. Research what you want, don't just google translate or something
2. Get somebody you know who knows Chinese to translate, don't just trust the tattoo artist or you'll end up with a tattoo that says 'Donkey Fucker' or something
我给任何想要中文纹身的人一些建议:
1.研究你想要的文字,不只是依靠谷歌翻译或什么的
2.找一个你认识的懂中文的人来翻译,不要只相信纹身师,否则你最终会得到这样的纹身,上面写着“操驴者”之类的
Kiran Jha
Good think there're two Chinese teachers in my school. xD For real though, I'd rather just get a Nepali or Hindi tattoo since I'm from Nepal. I wouldn't get a tattoo at all though.
还好我的学校里有两个中文老师。我宁愿纹尼泊尔或印地语纹身,因为我来自尼泊尔。不过,我根本不会去纹身。

Actually ciqing the word means tattoo in Chinese 'qing ' is means black, in ancient times it means black, it not the same meaning to nowadays
其实“刺青”这个“青”在汉语中的意思是是黑色的意思,在古代它的意思是黑色,到了今天它的意思就不一样了

And if you REALLY know what the characters mean in Chinese and speak fluently, then there's still a chance that they also exist in Japanese with a different meaning. Don't get Chinese character tattoos.
如果你真的知道这些汉字的意思,并且说得很流利,但它们在日语中也可能有不同的含义。不要去弄汉字的纹身。

Beckham's tattoo is actually a legitimate Chinese saying. It's written in very decent cursive writing as well; he must've paid good money.
贝克汉姆的纹身其实是一句很合理的中国谚语。也是用非常体面的草书写的,他一定花了很多钱纹上去的。

Wow. I cant believe that some people won't even look up the meaning of words that they're tattooing on their body. It literally takes like 5 seconds, while the tattoo is going to be on you for life. I cannot believe the laziness of some people.
哇。我不敢相信有些人甚至都不会去查他们身上纹身的意思。从字面上看,它需要5秒钟,而纹身将会在你身上度过一生。我不敢相信有些人这么懒惰。

the best way to make sure the chinese characters you tattoo on yourselves are okay is to ask your chiense friends or at yahoo answers.

Why does traditional or simplified matter? Pig is still pig whether or it's written with the traditional or simplified so I'm going to laugh at you either way.
为什么要说繁体字或简体字区别很重要?“猪”都是写作猪,无论是用繁体还是简体写的,所以我都会笑你。
Ocean Burning.
This makes me think. Here in China I'm always laughing when I walk around the clothing store and read the ridiculous English phrases they put on clothes. How does it work for Chinese people when they go to America and walk around reading ridiculous Chinese tattoos on people? I'd have a hard time not laughing in their face.
这让我觉得。在中国时,当我在服装店里闲逛,读着他们穿在衣服上的可笑英语时,我总是觉得很好笑。当中国人去美国,看见到处都是可笑的中国纹身时,他们会如何反应呢?我很难当着他们的面憋住笑

A few years ago, at work, I was talking to a teenager. He had just had a tattoo done all along his forearm which he said was "I AM A BAD BOY" written in chinese..... I laughed out so loud because it said "kung hei fat choy!"
几年前,在工作的时候,我和一个十几岁的孩子聊天。他刚刚在手臂上纹了一个纹身,他说是用中文写的“我是个坏男孩”…我笑得直不起腰,因为上面纹的是“恭喜发财”
