My friend is an ob/gyn at one of NYC’s hospitals. At this time, delivery rooms are restricted to mothers and one doctor; relatives, including the father, are banned following an incident that exposed 50+ staffers to the coronavirus.
In short, take this seriously.

This is something that a lot of people are missing... just because there's a pandemic doesn't mean that people stop needing medical care for other reasons.

Just wait til Florida's infections reaches it's peak just as the first hurricane of the season heads for land.
People think 2020 is going to be content with one disaster at a time?
Buckle the fuck up

And a whole other round kicks in for everyone up North. Great...

Okay I hadn't considered that and it's really scary.

You have people literally licking supermarket aisles and coughing on produce, I don't think they will take this seriously.

Millions of people will present symptoms related to Coronavirus over the next couple of months. There won’t be tests available for the absolute vast majority of these people.

My local hospital for a city of 10,000 in Michigan has declined hundreds of calls for people exhibiting "obvious" symptoms. They have 50 test kits and must save them for healthcare workers.

Here they're saying just stay home unless you need hospitalization. Which makes sense, but also means the numbers are nowhere near realistic. Iceland apparently tested damn near everyone and found that half the people that have it are asymptomatic. That's the worst part for me. This only ends when everyone has finally been exposed or we find a cure. And at the current rate, it's looking like the former.

AZ has the 5th biggest city in the country and as of now has tested under 1000 people. Awesome.

My pregnant friend’s midwife told her that she should keep riding the subway in NYC to help build herd immunity. Soo.. yeah.

There are two ways to become immune to an infection. One is through the natural process of catching it and building an immunity; the other is by having a vaccination against it.
Maybe the implication is she should keep riding the subway to get it.

Iran tried that. They're digging mass graves.

Do you have a source for this? I'm genuinely curious.

They're barely testing here in Texas, the 2nd most populous state, and despite that U.S is already number one. The real case count in the US is probably 5x more.

As a healthcare worker in NYC, I implore everyone to take this shit seriously. I’ve never witnessed something like this and am trying to convey the seriousness of it all to the people in my life.
It’s not a joke

And then our 'leaders' get on TV and say this will be over in a week. Needless to say how pissed I'm at, at certain political figures probably isn't good for my blood pressure.

Trump is just a clueless idiot. Today's press conference just cemented that fact for me.
BTW , he sent Pompeo to the WHO to lobby to have the name changed to the Wuhan Virus...like it makes a damn bit of difference.

New York is the epicenter right now. We have 10X as many positive tests as any other state. Our peak crisis in coming very, very soon. Other states will likely follow, but we don't know exactly when.

I'm a healthcare worker who lived in Wuhan for 2 years. I started talking to my co-workers and manager about how serious this was back when Wuhan got quarantined. Basically begging people to order extra PPE and such. I knew exactly what shutting down a major transportation hub shortly before Chinese New Year meant.
No one listened and I'm apparently a witch who can tell the future now.
