After the New Coronavirus made it to the global news a lot of my Chinese and Asian friends from all over the world sent me worrying messages. There was one message from a follower in particular that made me really upset.

Very well said Thomas. Let's be compassionate and caring for each other, we are global citizens living on the only shared planet named earth. At the same time please consider this : Shanghai has a population of over 24 million people and as early Feb 2020 has 193 persons confirmed cases off positive 2019nCov with 1 fatality. Result: video all over the world showing shanghai becomes like a ghost town because people are encouraged to stay at home for the sake of virus containment. While there maybe logic behind that but at the same time this creates fears to whoever watch the video. Fears that unfortunately lead to racism, and/or discrimination towards Chinese as we see and heard in many places in the world. Racism, discrimination are wrong and cannot be justified under whatever circumstances or reasons. But at the same time we should keep in mind that actions caused reactions and people need to not overly fear and panic. Hopefully people in China could also find that balance in their search for safety against the virus while not promoting fears by isolating themselves to the point the world see their lifeless cities. We all expect people to apply Common Senses and avoid Over Reactions. - UP: 1
