I am here to provide my perspective as a Non-Indian, Non-Chinese, Non-American person who has lived in all of the aforementioned countries. I would rank China as the safest, USA second and India last. I have formulated these opinions based on talking with local girls, female tourists and my own experiences. The following is my analysis of each of the countries:1) India - There is a trepidation amongst local girls in India to walk at night and most prefer to walk with a male companion or within a large group of girls, and that too only if they absolutely have to. It is not uncommon to see groups of men on the street catcalling and harassing passerbys, their target: women and foreigners. Safety apps for women that immediately call 5 of your best friends when in danger are very popular there.2)USA - The US is relatively safer, apart from the occassional run ins with crazy homeless people ( odds go up in Subways) and the knowledge that almost anybody could own a gun. I and my female companions felt very safe. While talking to locals they warned us about different neighborhoods in differents cities where precautions were necessary although we personally didnt face any danger.3) China- Maybe its the laws, maybe its the culture. I feel very safe in China. Most people here are afraid to get in any sort of trouble with the law and thus dont do things that would give themselves unnecessary troubles or problems. I have seen girls walking home alone on the streets at 3 am in the morning in dresses that make them look like they forgot their pants at home without any problems, and most local girls i know dont really pay much attention to security. I remember hearing about rape in China, was about 5 years ago when a British Indian guy tried to rape a girl and that too the locals saved her.

I think your question needs to be more specific. Although you can provide statistics for a country, it's really a terrible idea to judge how "safe" a whole country is, based on that. You are comparing USA, India and China some of the largest countries in the world! They all aren't going to be uniformly safe or uniformly unsafe! For example, Camden (NJ, USA)and East StLouis (IL, USA) are some of the worst neighborhoods you can be in, but Johnston (Iowa, USA) and Cary (NC, USA) are extremely safe!India isn't as unsafe as everyone projects it to be either. There are localities in India where I've seen girls hang out well after midnight, without any problems!

I got no idea about China but a comparision between india and usa would be great/funny.As per recent documentaries/news etc. India is unsafe. As per stats there are more number of registered rapes in usa than India meaning usa should be unsafe. Stats of  Per person rapes are more for usa. But then people would would argue that many rapes in India go unreported which is true for usa also but to a lesser degree. So India should be unsafe.But bottom line is both countries are way behind in handling this. Both need to work on the mentality of their residents. Travelling alone in night on a desserted street of Detroit might be scarier than walking on main street of Delhi.Walking in front of times square will be safer than walking on some desserted street of my hometown.

I live in USA and I've been to china so I can talk about those two countries but not India since I've never been there. I felt a lot safer in china than I did in my own city because the laws are more stricter there and no men harassed me like they do in my city. I also didn't have to worry about getting robbed or shot at which can be a real problem in some parts of the United States. Also people in china were very nice and friendly so I felt comfortable there.

The answer is simple. India is worst place even for travel. The first concern is safety. If you are a woman you never know what can happen to you at any moment. Everyday there are umpteen cases of rapes and even India takes years for solving 'em. So it's not at all a good country. Second, it's a dirty. * Don't stare at me everywhere I go. If I leave the room, I get stared at. By a lot of people. It's weird and it's the only country I have experienced this.
* Don't look at my wife like she is a piece of meat. This happens all of the time. Never happens in any other country. In fact, if someone looked at her like that in our own country, she would break their jaw.
* Don't feel that you have the right to grope my wife in large crowds. This has happened in several different states.

My suggestion is that it’s ok for men to travel in both countries, it’s better for women to tour in China. I do not know much about India, so my answers may not satisfy you. According to what I have heard and learnt about India, China is much safer than India for tourists. Followings are the reasons. There are many news regarding rape cases in India on Internet. Some of these cases sounds horrible. It’s not necessary to give some examples, you may search the Internet for those gang rape cases if you want. I DO NOT mean to offend Indian people, but such crimes is so frequent that I must reconsider the personal security of women in India. There are some rape cases happening in China, but much less frequent than India, and government punishes rapist harshly.

For tourists, the USA is a very dangerous country to visit if you are not white. There is a high risk of getting shot by rifles if you happen to be picking up groceries at their supermarkets.
East Asians must be careful when travelling in the US, as racism is very common. Count yourself lucky if you are only insulted (eg ‘chink' , ‘slit-eyes' etc) on the public transport or anywhere in public. Always have an eye over your shoulder because you never know if the person behind starts shooting (anti-foreigner sentiments are at an all time high) or knifes you.

If you're a female, you need to be very careful in India. I lived in Delhi for two years and I constantly felt unsafe. The difference in China is not so much personal safety, but just being scammed in general. You're more likely to be scammed over by a taxi driver who wont used a meter in China than a taxi driver who might just take you to a completely different location in India and try to get you to stay there.

I have always felt that in US I get actual freedom and see people enjoying it too. You wear, speak, do whatever you want within law limits and its never ever a problem. I come from India where we have democracy and its a free nation, but I don’t see that people have the freedom to do, say, wear what they want. There is always a fear.
Yes, there are incidents of undesired gun usage in US which are definitely a problem, but most times it feels pretty safe to be a traveler.

I am from India and have been travelled to number of places in India and found the place safer except some places like Delhi. One of the most important fact about India which I came to know during my travel, is the people living here are of helping nature, trustworthy and welcoming. They show great respect for womans. The USA, in general, is a safe place. I’ve been going there for over 10 years and never heard a gunshot (and that includes staying in downtown Chicago). Like many countries, the USA does have some problem areas. I once told a Chicago resident I was planning to take a train to South Bend. On the basis that it simply passes through South Chicago (an area best avoided) she told me not to take the train even though it doesn’t stop in the places to be avoided.I don't have much idea about China, as i have never been there but looking forward for my next vacation in China.

For Indians, India is safer and for Chinese, China is safer but people of other nationality may find that they are both equally safe.6.97 million tourists  visited India in 2013, while 383.7 million tourists visited China during 2014. The numbers may be in favor of China partly because in October 2014 China surpassed USA to become the largest economy. Never the less both countries are culturally and geographically diverse and worth visiting.
