I'm a ordinary Chinese living in Hefei, capital city of Anhui Province,east part of China. I work as a supervisor of a new metro line supervising project in this city. I was born in a common general rural place like lots of other Chinese, and i finished my collage in 2014. These are the backgrounds.

Workers transporting materials with a flatbed in tunnel.
Lifting goods in to the tunnel at night because of the tight deadlines.
Daily Checking the safety status of the gantry crane.(SAFTY FIRST)
Workers welding rails with a automatic welding machine.
Workers are cleaning the subway track bed before the acceptance of the project.
When we were inspecting the sleeper prefabrication plant last year.

Having dinner with colleagues and have a barbecue(Chinese barbecue btw ), loved it!
From my own perspective, our country was poor and weak, there was a serious lack of modern infrastructure. But, through decades of development and the joint efforts of all people, things changed a lot. TIPS: As of December 28, 2023, a total of 94 urban rail transit systems have been opened in China. As of December 31, 2023, there are 59 cities operating rail transit in China, with a cumulative operating mileage of 11,232.65 kilometers. This is just one of all the changes.

Most people in Korea said places like China were too dangerous. That was a huge exaggeration. Criticizing a country's culture should not result in ideological conflict. I worked for GE Medical Systems in the late 70’s. My boss went to China to discuss the sale of 50 CT scanners to China. There was one problem… China didn’t have hard currency to pay for them. GE worked out a combination of financing and barter, China traded some natural resource (I can’t recall specifically). Fast forward to 2024, China now manufactures CT scanners for GE and China is the largest market for CT scanners. One of the things I really like about China is that it is OK to have high intelligence. When I was 14 years old my family spent one year in the US state of Colorado. I quickly learned that in school there it was not good to be too smart. In math class, when the teacher asked “does anyone think they know the answer?” I would stay silent, even if I knew the answer to a problem.
From what I have heard it is much different in China. If a child has good talent in an area of study, I have heard that the Chinese school system seeks to build those talents. This is an approach many regions in the US could learn from.
Thankfully I spent most of my life in California, where we have plenty of Chinese families. They have a good attitude about education.
My Chinese friends and their parents in school were always very supportive of talents and achievements. It didn’t matter if a child was a blond kid like me, or a Hispanic kid, or black, or whatever. If they did something well, such as getting a high mark in subject XYZ, the Chinese parents would say “Wow, congratulations! You have real talent at this. I predict a great future for you in XYZ.”

By the way because I am a “typical” blue eyed Westerner, I want to apologize for how many European countries and the US acted in China between the year 1800 and 1949. Of course it was not me, but an apology is in order. I am deeply sorry.

Incredible standard of living of ordinary people like you. I visited China (Guangdong) back in 2005 near HK. Back then there was quite a bit of progress but still with lots of poverty. I can imagine how much progress must have happened. From the pictures that you have shown I can only tell that as of now China seems a lot more prosperous than my home country, Mexico.

From my own perspective, our country was poor and weak, there was a serious lack of modern infrastructure. But, through decades of development and the joint efforts of all people, things changed a lot. TIPS: As of December 28, 2023, a total of 94 urban rail transit systems have been opened in China. As of December 31, 2023, there are 59 cities operating rail transit in China, with a cumulative operating mileage of 11,232.65 kilometers. This is just one of all the changes.

I worked for GE Medical Systems in the late 70’s. My boss went to China to discuss the sale of 50 CT scanners to China. There was one problem… China didn’t have hard currency to pay for them. GE worked out a combination of financing and barter, China traded some natural resource (I can’t recall specifically). Fast forward to 2024, China now manufactures CT scanners for GE and China is the largest market for CT scanners. I worked in China on and off for the last 20 years and observed first-hand the tremendous progress China has made. The Chinese are to be respected for it. I only wish there was less tension and division between China and the west.

One of the things I really like about China is that it is OK to have high intelligence. When I was 14 years old my family spent one year in the US state of Colorado. I quickly learned that in school there it was not good to be too smart. In math class, when the teacher asked “does anyone think they know the answer?” I would stay silent, even if I knew the answer to a problem.
From what I have heard it is much different in China. If a child has good talent in an area of study, I have heard that the Chinese school system seeks to build those talents. This is an approach many regions in the US could learn from.
Thankfully I spent most of my life in California, where we have plenty of Chinese families. They have a good attitude about education.
My Chinese friends and their parents in school were always very supportive of talents and achievements. It didn’t matter if a child was a blond kid like me, or a Hispanic kid, or black, or whatever. If they did something well, such as getting a high mark in subject XYZ, the Chinese parents would say “Wow, congratulations! You have real talent at this. I predict a great future for you in XYZ.”

We in the west could learn a lot from china however I worry that even with china’s amazing and rapid growth and technological advancement the people still live in a one party state with curtailed freedoms. Going on some Western propoganda you would imagine poverty and poor infrastructure would abound.
Far from it where I travelled, which was mainly Shanghai and Qingdao. Modern cities with an appearance that not too many cities in other countries could rival. The people I met were friendly. Incredible standard of living of ordinary people like you. I visited China (Guangdong) back in 2005 near HK. Back then there was quite a bit of progress but still with lots of poverty. I can imagine how much progress must have happened. From the pictures that you have shown I can only tell that as of now China seems a lot more prosperous than my home country, Mexico.
